A blog gives customers a chance to connect with companies in that they are able to make comments, as well as rate and/or review the companies’ products or services. Customers are able to do this in the comment section of blogs. Blogs are an inbound method of marketing versus the traditional marketing of television, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc. Customers are not able to connect with companies through these traditional channels. Blogging gives customers the ability to interact with the company. Conversing with potential customers builds trust over time; therefore, when the marketer does talk to them about their product and service offerings, the customers will be ready for the offering (“Get Found in the Blogosphere”).
The Architect of a Company’s Blog
Quality blogs should have a comment section; so, that customers can connect with the companies through their comments, as well as the company connecting with the potential customers by responding to their comments. Blogs should also have a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed. RSS feeds allow the readers of the blogs to subscribe to the blogs. What the subscription does is it will let the readers know when the author of the blog has published a new post without the reader having to visit the blog to check for new blog posts. Blogs should also have social media sharing icons, so, the readers can share the posts on their favorite social networking sites with their followers and friends which, in turn, will drive traffic to the marketer’s website.
Blogging for Marketing
Blogging for marketing has influenced marketing strategies in numerous ways. A marketer’s blog can change their website from being an online brochure to a hub for their marketplace (“Get Found in the Blogosphere”). It can dramatically improve search engine rankings because of the inbound links.
As mentioned earlier, if a blog has the social media icons located on it, site visitors are able to share the blog posts to various social media networks generating more exposure leading to more traffic. In addition, users on social bookmarking sites, for example, Digg, Delicious, and StumbleUpon, can vote for and share the posts with their followers.
Another blogging for marketing strategy is to invite guest bloggers to write a guest post for the marketer’s blog. The guest blogger adds the link to their article, which is on the marketer’s site, on their website and, in turn, the guest’s blog readers will follow the link back to the marketer’s blog generating even more traffic.
Overall, blogging is a form of inbound marketing. If implemented correctly, the marketer does not have to blast the potential customers with their marketing messages. The customers will find the marketer through using specific keywords as search terms or perhaps through social media networks. If the content is remarkable, the potential customers will subscribe to the blog using RSS feeds in order to be informed when a new blog post is published.

Lead generation is the toughest part of running a business. You are passionate about what you do but getting people to see your true value can seem impossible. Having the right plan and being consistent will keep your sales funnel flowing. Here are 7 tips to help you get started in generating more internet leads for your business.
Tip #1: SEO
Search Engine Optimization is extremely important for generating leads because it will help you get better placement on search engines like Google and Bing. The first step to generating a lead is to get visitors to your site. Studies show that most searchers click on links that are on the first page. Strategies that can help you achieve good ranking include:
Publishing relevant content on your website
Keeping your website content updated regularly
Using keywords that your prospects are using to find the type of solutions your business offers
Tip #2: Educate and Entertain
When people visit your site, what do they see? Does your site speak to your buyer persona and make them want to spend time there? Are you making it easy for them to see that you have what they need and want? Visitors want to instantly know if you have something on your site that will bring value to their lives. You can help your prospects make the decision to move forward in working with you by blogging or even offering a free video or e-book download that showcases what you do best.
Tip#3: Social Media
It’s no shocker that people love social media. Studies show that Facebook has over 1 billion users and there are 4.5 billion likes generated daily. Other platforms such as Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and LinkedIn have millions of users as well and are particularly popular with business owners. Social media allows you to have a presence where people hang out online. It gives you a different medium to educate and entertain visitors aside from your website. Do you have a social media profile? Are you connecting with people? Are you delivering helpful information?
Tip #4: Blogging
Keeping with the theme of educating and entertaining, blogging is a great way to showcase your expertise and cement yourself as an expert in your industry. As visitors search the web, blog entries are indexed pages that lead readers back to your website.
Tip #5: Landing Pages
Landing pages are sometimes referred to as virtual sales pages. Landing pages add value to your site because it allows you to hone in on specific products or services that may interest specific buyers. Having relevant landing pages improve your chances of getting a qualified lead.
Tip #6: Online Ads
Pay-per-click (PPC) advertisement is another great way to generate leads. Your ads pop up when searchers are looking for something related to your business but you only have to pay if your ad is clicked. PPC advertisement gives you the freedom to be as aggressive as you like and the flexibility to make changes to your account at any time. Advertisers are able to add extensions; such as their Phone number, URL and social links to make the process more inviting for visitors.
Tip #7: Simplicity
Anytime you’re asking prospects for information, less is more. Make sure that your call to action is visible without having to scroll and don’t try to get too much information too soon. Since they are in the early stages of the buying process, just get enough information to begin the nurturing process like their first name and email address.
Lead generating is much tougher than it used to be because everyone has their guard up so you have to make sure you’re properly nurturing every opportunity. While every prospect or visitor may not be a buyer, you can use each situation as a learning experience that will help you get further clarity on who your real customers are and how to best connect with them.

When it comes to using social media to grow your business, you’ve probably heard that Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and even Instagram is the way to go. This may be true, but we seldom hear people talk about some of the other platforms that could be beneficial to business owners like Reddit.
Reddit may not be as popular as the other platforms, but it has some features that may be ideal for business owners. Not to talk bad about the big guys like Facebook and Twitter, but it’s easy for your posts to get lost in that huge ocean of content. Reddit tends to fly under the radar, but its users are passionate and the Reddit platform is very functional.
How Reddit Works
At first glance, the site can seem a little dry. It uses a simplistic approach with basic font. Maybe not the most aesthetically pleasing, but it definitely gets the job done. Once you’ve been on the site for a while you’ll begin to appreciate its simplicity.
When you enter the site, you will notice a page full of random posts. These posts are the more popular ones as deemed by the Reddit community. Posts are either up-voted or down-voted, which affects the placement of the post. Users are also able to comment on posts, in fact this is highly encouraged.
Reddit users are quite savvy; so, blasting them with sales and ads is discouraged. The site is tailored more for people to share content that is either helpful, informative or funny. To help narrow down the content, Reddit uses something they call subreddits. This allows users to search for content that they are interested in.
For example, if you are interested in marketing tips, you can search for posts related to such. If this is still too broad for you, Reddit will give you a list of subreddits for specific types of internet marketing. You may find a subreddit for entrepreneur marketing tips, start-up tips, social media, and so on.
If you are interested in multiple topics, Reddit allows you to create multireddits. Multireddits give you a place where you can manage and maintain posts about all of topics that are important to you. So if your interests are marketing, website design and search engine optimization, your multireddits will consist of posts related to those three topics.
The Reddit community is very active. They love to share information and help one another. This type of interaction is great for business owners. Posting helpful information in your area of expertise is great, but also interacting with others and answering questions related to your business helps showcase your knowledge or expertise.
A popular subreddit for business owners is AMA, which stands for Ask Me Anything. This is valuable because it opens the floodgates for users to ask whatever they want. Business owners benefit from this because not only does it help build interest in your industry or company but it shows your confidence about the subject matter.
For business owners that use Google AdWords, they may find Reddit ads useful. It’s very similar to Google AdWords, but on the Reddit platform. This is where the simplicity of the site is a bonus, because colorful ads pop on the screen and are easy for viewers to see.
Even though the larger social media outlets are the talk of the town, Reddit has a place for the casual user, as well as business owners. With its devoted followers eager for information, it’s a great place for business owners to build brand recognition and gain followers they would have otherwise missed out on.

Blogging has become an important part of internet marketing. It’s a great way to showcase your expertise while helping to increase your site ranking on all the major search engines. With all the positives that blogging brings to the table, it can become a little discouraging because there is quite a bit of content saturation online. Everyone seems to be fighting for that top spot.
Most business owners understand that it takes time to start reaping the benefits of blogging, but there are ways to speed up the process. Here are 7 key elements of a great blog post to help your blog stick out amongst the crowd.
Eye Popping Headlines
Headlines are extremely important because in many cases, it is the first thing the reader will see. You want your headline to have bold text and a larger font. In addition to the look of your headline, you want the message to be something that really resonates with your audience. Your headline should be something that you know your target audience needs and is currently searching for online. For example, if you are a business coach that focuses on client generation for startups, a great title for a blog could be “9 Guaranteed Tips for Landing Your First Client.”
Use your own unique style so that you can differentiate yourself from other businesses that blog. The worst thing you can do is imitate someone else’s style and tone. Your blog is an extension of you and how you do business; so, give your readers a chance to get to know and love you.
Bullets help simplify content and makes it easy to read. Some blog visitors may never read your blogs in their entirety, but they will scan through them. Scanners like to read things that stick out because they know they can get a pretty good understanding of what the blog is about with this method. They are looking for things that are bold, italicized, underlined and especially bulleted. Words or phrases that are bulleted let the reader know that this is something of extreme importance.
Pictures are a nice addition to any blog post. They give readers an idea of what your blog is about before they read any words. Studies show that people are more inclined to read blogs with pictures versus ones without. Some great places to find images for your blog are istockphoto.com and fotolia.com.
As I stated earlier, there is a great deal of competition on the web, so your content has to bring something to the table if you want people to read it. Look for creative ways to make your blog posts fun and entertaining for your readers. Some examples would be interviewing a client in your niche, case studies, how-to articles and other points of interest that you know your prospects are itching to read about.
Give your readers valuable information that will keep them coming back for more. You have to know your audience. Focus on content that educates, solves problems and makes your prospect or client’s life easier. Stay away from generic content, there’s enough of that online, give them something that is actionable.
Make sure that your readers leave your blog wanting more. A great closing makes your readers want to take some type of action whether it’s commenting on your blog, reaching out to you by phone, signing up for your newsletter or free offer, following you on social media or completing a form on your website.

Most small business owners have a shoestring marketing budget, but yet need to market their business online. We’re going to discuss some internet marketing strategies you can implement in order to give your business the online exposure that is necessary to reach your target audience. Most of them are free; however, they will cost you time.
Your website is your online business card. If you don’t have an online presence, you will not grow or succeed. According to the infographic below, created by invesp, more than 80% of internet users have used the internet to buy something and more than 50% shopped more than once online. Seventy-three percent say they prefer to shop online because it saves them time, while 58% prefer it because of no crowd. As you can see, you will miss a lot of potential sales if you don’t have a website.
The infographic shows other statistics that reiterate the importance of having an online presence, and building a website is the first step in doing so.
Make sure your website is optimized for search engines in order to market your business on the internet. Sprinkle keywords that your clients use when searching for your products or services throughout your website copy creating keyword rich content. Search engines like fresh content also. So, update regularly. In addition, quality backlinks play a role in your site ranking well in search engine results, which, in turn, will drive traffic to your site.
Creating and maintaining a blog will also drive free traffic to your site, giving you and your business exposure. You can use this platform for content marketing, which we’ll discuss next, sharing valuable content to your audience. This will draw them to you, which is a form of inbound marketing. We’ll also talk about this strategy a little later.
The Content Marketing Institute describes content marketing as “Content marketing is a marketing technique of creating and distributing relevant and valuable content to attract, acquire, and engage a clearly defined and understood target audience – with the objective of driving profitable customer action.” Blogging, creating website content, broadcasting email campaigns, and social media marketing are all examples of content marketing and are ways of marketing your business on the internet.
Social Media Marketing
Being active on various social networks is another strategy you can use to market your business online. Posting relevant and valuable content will attract your target audience to you and your business (content marketing). You will also be seen as an expert in your industry to your potential clients.
Inbound marketing is a marketing strategy that uses relevant and valuable content to draw potential clients. The traditional method of advertising involved delivering advertising messages to the masses through radio, TV, magazines, etc. hoping to be found like a needle in the haystack; to be heard through all the other ads. Inbound marketing is a technique where your clients find you generally through internet searches verses you broadcasting to your market as a method of obtaining clients.
These are just a few techniques you can use to market your business on the internet giving you and your company the exposure you need to grow and succeed.

There are all sorts of social media platforms out there that can make your business more visible online and help you generate more revenue. One social media platform that has seen incredible growth is Pinterest. Currently Pinterest has 70 million users.
Service-based business owners typically stay away from Pinterest because they think it only works for product-based companies. In this article, I will share with you some tips that you can start using right now to grow your service-based business using Pinterest.
Pinterest moves at a very quick pace so if you want to build your business, you have to keep up by pinning often. Pinning new pictures and videos daily will help you build brand awareness. Service-based businesses can share package images, images that are relevant to an event you may be hosting or even images that go along with a blog post you recently published.
Humanize Your Brand
While it’s great to be professional and stick to industry-related topics, there’s nothing wrong with showing the human side to your brand. You don’t have to share personal or intimate information like images of your kids or spouse. Instead you can share images of your favorite restaurants, brands you adore, things that make you laugh, inspirational images and so on.
It’s okay to share things that you have found online, but people love originality. Creating your own images is a great way to build authenticity and your fans know that when they visit your boards they’re likely going to find something they haven’t seen before. Original images can also earn you a spot on the Popular Section of Pinterest. The Popular Section is where you’ll find unique and original images. Earning a spot in this section will also draw a huge crowd to your boards.
Have you been using Pinterest to grow your service-based business? Are you new to Pinterest and still have questions? Whether you have comments or questions, we’d love for you to connect with us using the comments section below.
